Assistant Majority Leader of the US Senate, Dick Durbin (IL), meets with activist Jesse Sullivan to discuss emergency shelter for Haiti and how America can begin to "Live OneWorld."
How amazing to think that in one month you can go from setting up a tent on the streets of DC for a cause and 30 days later getting a meeting with the 2nd most powerful Senator in the United States. I have always looked up to Senator Durbin's stance on global issues. He truly cares about our neighbors around the world and feels like we have a special obligation towards them. He has an awesome staff. I spoke with them for about an hour and then Sen. Durbin came in and talked for about 20 min. We covered Haiti and the needs on the ground, then we launched into a larger conversation about our unique responsibility to ensure that global political and economic structures work not only for us Americans at the top, but also for the voiceless majority living in desperation and poverty at the bottom.
Thanks Senator Durbin for your support of our initiative and I look forward to working with you in the future to get our nation to begin to Live OneWorld.
