Day 2: Distribution of shelter with IOM!

“How do I know that if I give to you, that my money will really go to help the people?”

This is usually the biggest obstacle that I hear standing in the way of a generous and compassionate donation to overseas aid.  It is certainly a legitimate concern and one that I share with all of you.  We all know that people profit off of these crisis situations and almost everyone has a political and business interest involved.  That’s not even to mention corruption and sheer ineffectiveness.

So I have cut through all of the smokescreens, mirrors, red tape, and bureaucracy to show you exactly where your money is going and the effect that it is having on the ground.

Today, we went with the International Organization for Migration (www.iom.org) to see their warehouse and go out on a shelter (non-food item) distribution in Martissan.  We delivered 500 tarps to shelter 2,500 people.  The saddest part was the desperation and scrambling that took place after we gave out our last tarp.  There was still a huge crowd of women and children who didn’t get a tarp and they all dashed, fought, and begged for the cardboard boxes that the tarps came in.

I hope it makes you happy to know that your personal donation really is making a difference in the lives of your brothers and sisters in Haiti.  I wish that each of you could have handed the tarp you bought (and will buy right now!) directly into the hands of the family that will no longer have to worry about their children sleeping out in the rain.  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!

The people of Haiti are so appreciative!  I have so much joy in my heart right now because I have been able to share in your service to our family around the world.

Please make it more than just writing a check.  Say a prayer of thanksgiving for all you have, reflect on the beauty of your life, grow in compassion by fasting for one day to be in solidarity, or host your own event to get your community involved.
